Was just wondering which video card would give me better performance..
The gtx460 oc edition or the Hd5850 regular edition..
Dont answer about price because i only care about the overall performance..thanks :-)|||hi caloy
the radeon HD5850 is the better of the two...and this is mainly down to the 256bit memory interface compared to only a 192bit interface in the GTX460...... however check out these specs and we will then compare performance
GTX460 :
Manufacturer: nVidia
Series: GeForce GTX 400
GPU: GF104
Release Date: 2010-07-12
Interface: PCI-E 2.0 x16
Core Clock: 675 MHz
Memory Clock: 1800 MHz (3600 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 115.2 GB/sec
Shader Operations: 226800 MOperations/sec
Pixel Fill Rate: 21600 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 37800 MTexels/sec
Vertex Operations: 56700 MVertices/sec
HD5850 :
Manufacturer: ATi
Series: Radeon HD 5k
GPU: RV870
Release Date: 2009-09-23
Interface: PCI-E 2.0 x16
Core Clock: 725 MHz
Memory Clock: 2000 MHz (4000 DDR)
Memory Bandwidth: 128 GB/sec
Shader Operations: 1044000 MOperations/sec
Pixel Fill Rate: 23200 MPixels/sec
Texture Fill Rate: 52200 MTexels/sec
Vertex Operations: 0 MVertices/sec
----------------------------------------…
as you can see theres some significant differences between these two cards... and these include the radeon HD5850,s core clock of 725mhz compared to just 675mhz core clock in the GTX460
also the 4000mhz effective memory clock in the HD5850 is better than the 3600mhz effective clock speed in the GTX460.... and this is reflected in the 128gb/sec memory bandwidth in the HD5850..with just a 115gb/sec memory bandwidth in the GTX460
another suprising spec is the power draw.... the HD5850 uses just 158w max power draw were the GTX460 draws 160w....... and allthough this is just a miniscule 2w it goes to show that the radeon HD5850 can acheive maximum performance while not needing a electricity sub station to power it !
you may also want to consider the new "nvidia GTX550ti" ( http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/product-g… ) .... this is a awesome card and around the same performance as the GTX460 ...... and it only draws 116w from the psu..... and its specs are impressive aswell......
however the HD5850 is your best overall choice......
i hope this helps caloy...however any questions let me know
good luck mate !|||both will rip through crysis no problem! i would imagine the hd 5850 is slightly faster but probably not enough to notice a difference? i have the geforce gts 450 at the moment and it has played everything i have thrown at it including crysis, crysis warhead, and the force unleased 2 without any problems. of course i also have the new core i5 2500 quad core cpu and 8 gb of ddr 3 ram. but yeah you should be happy with either of those cards. i usually buy HIS cards for ati and evga cards for nvidea cuz the quality of these brands are great! good luck! :o)|||they are about the same but i would go for the hd5850.
