I've read somewhere that newer main boards / graphics cards have the ability to turn off graphics cards and use only integrated gpu when not gaming. Considering that the GTX460 sucks ~150Watts idle, there could be significant savings from this technology, especially if you run your computer all night.
Is this true or did I just imagine it? :)|||You can, but you would have to do it in BIOS. It's pretty much pointless as a cost savings measure.
I'll assume your kilowatt an hour usage is 8 cents. Don't know what your integrated GPU uses in watts, but I'll say around 50, so if you do the math (watt*hrs used)/1000 watts)*kilowatt hr electricity rates. If you left it on for 365 days 150 watts would cost about $115 and at 50 watts about $35, so it's pretty pointless. Your not going to use it constantly and switching back and forth is a huge hassle.|||yes you can disable it and switch but, it won't be much of a difference
