I need recommendations for a motherboard and processor that would help maximize performance on a GTX460?

For a single video card, pretty much any quad core processor and compatible motherboard would be a good match. If you can afford it, I'm recommending the i7-950 3.06 GHz cpu as having the best price/performance ratio among top video cards. That would of course require a Socket 1366 motherboard.

On the less expensive side, a Phenom II x4 955 and Socket AM3 motherboard do a very nice job for gaming with that card.|||That is a bit of a hard question because it is reverse building. The Nvidia graphics card can only run as well as it can, the motherboard has no effect on it's performance. As long as it is a pci-express 1 or 2 slot it will just do what it does. The motherboard and cpu are another matter. Obviously the faster bus speed of the cpu and memory, the better the computer will perform as a whole, but nothing will make the Graphics card run any faster than it already can. It is a self contained unit.|||Nvidia's are generally best run with an Intel Processor. While Radeon HD is better for AMD.

I would suggest Intel Core i7 for your processor and motherboard go for a nice Gigabyte one.

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R isn't that bad. Make sure you have the right socket for the processor. Different i7's use different sockets.
